Japan Society for the Promotion of Science

Researcher Exchange Program

The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) carries out bilateral cooperative programs with science promotion organizations (counterpart organizations) based on agreements for international scientific cooperation. Under the Researcher Exchange Program, Japanese researchers visit the counterpart countries and this program provides them financial support such as travel expenses.

In addition to the Researcher Exchange Program based on Memorandum of Cooperation(MoC) with counterpart organizations, we also operate the “JSPS  Overseas Research Fellowships", a program designed to enable outstanding early-career researchers from Japan to devote themselves to long-term research at designated universities or research institutions abroad.
For researchers coming from overseas, we implement the “Invitational Fellowships for Research in Japan (Short-term and Long-term)” and the “Postdoctoral Fellowships for Research in Japan.” These programs aim to promote broad-based academic exchange across all fields of scholarship by inviting researchers from around the world to conduct research in Japan.
