Data search / analysis(JDCat)

JDCat

JDCat is the abbreviation of “Japan Data Catalog for the Humanities and Social Sciences.” As a component of JSPS’s Program for Constructing Data Infrastructure for the Humanities and Social Science (hereafter referred to as “the program”), this data catalog was created to allow the batch retrieval of metadata (e.g. the contents, contexts and sources of data sets) across fields of the humanities and social sciences. Metadata from the research institutions commissioned to operate this program can be retrieved in batches.

JDCat Logo

JDCat_Logo The JDCat logo design takes the form of a stone with the initials (HSS) for the Humanities and Social Sciences engraved in it. In its symbolism, the stone harkens back to data preserved in an early age by primeval and ancient peoples. Turning forward, it embeds a wish for the perennial use of data interlinked organically via JDCat. The logo’s calm coloring and the river-like flow of letters running through it portray an image of academic pursuit in the Humanities and Social Sciences, while depicting the streaming of HSS data use and sharing via JDCat.
Regarding the use of the logo, please refer to the “Usage Conditions” page, item “5. Logo.”

JDCat Character

JDCat_Character The JDCat character is a Calico cat, which is symbolic of Japanese cats. The color of the cat’s fur is the same as the JDCat logo, which is also embossed on the beret crowning the cat’s head. Wearing the coat of a sleuth, the cat discovers valuable new data with a gleam of delight.
