The English name of this program, the Program for Forming Japan’s Peak Research Universities (J-PEAKS), was devised with the expectation that each university in Japan would further develop its strengths and distinctive research capabilities, and that as core regional universities and universities with distinctive strengths connect with each other, they will exert their presence just like a mountain range with multiple peaks.
 
The program’s logo consists of a symbol (shape) and a logotype (decorative letters) that spells out “J-PEAKS.” 
 
The symbol is inspired by a mountain range, expressing the strength of distinctive research and the goal of forming consortiums of research universities through inter-institutional collaboration. It conjures the image of various uniquely shaped peaks coming together to form a range by building strong bonds. The main colors of the color scheme are blue, symbolizing expansion toward the future, and purple, evoking an intellectual image, to express the formation and development of the research university consortiums through this program.
 
Similarly, the “A” in the logotype also represents a mountain range.

(1) All rights pertaining to the logo are the property of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (hereinafter, “JSPS”). Exclusive use of the logo, such as making it your own trademark or design, or use for commercial purposes or for solicitation of political or religious activities, is not permitted.
 
(2) When using the logo, please contact the program secretariat by email at least two weeks before the planned start date (see “Contact Information” at the bottom of this page). However, if any of the following apply, prior consultation is not necessary:
1. When used by national administrative agencies related to this program 
2. When used by selected universities or collaborating institutions for the purpose of publicizing results and activities related to this program 
 
(3) In cases where the logo appears in published media such as magazines or books, JSPS may require the logo user to submit a copy of the article (or, if published on a web page, the URL and screenshot of the article).
 
(4) Please do not share the logo with third parties.
