JSPS supports Frontiers of Science (FoS) symposia that provide a platform for talented young researchers (up to 45 years of age) to engage in cross-disciplinary discussions on leading edge scientific topics. The symposia aim to contribute to the development of new academic disciplines and the fostering of future generations of leaders. The participants lodge together over the 3-day period and attend all of the sessions.
The format and implementation policy of these symposia are determined by the JSPS FoS Symposium Advisory Board.
FoS symposia have been carried out in cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences in the US and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany (JAGFOS), Royal Society in the UK (UK-Japan FoS), The Royal Society of Canada and Canadian Institute for Advanced Research in Canada (JCFoS),  Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) in France (JFFoS), and Israeli Ministry of Innovation, Science & Technology in Israel (JIFoS).
