R072 Committee on Innovation of Construction Materials for Sustainable Infrastructure in the Next-Generation

Aims and Goals

In order to realize structures and buildings that are resistant to natural disasters and that reliably demonstrate their effectiveness in disaster prevention and mitigation over the long term, while giving maximum consideration to environmental impact, this committee aims to promote the development and performance improvement of construction materials that constitute structures and buildings, and the rationalization and advancement of construction technology to construct structures and buildings.

Research Themes

Technologies for infrastructure development are divided into the civil engineering field for structures and the construction field for buildings. Cement, concrete, and concrete admixtures, which are typical constituent materials of these structures, are industrial products of the chemical field. Since information sharing and mutual understanding among the civil engineering, construction, and chemical fields are essential for effective development and research of construction materials, we will establish a new venue for industry-academia cooperation in the civil engineering, construction, and chemical fields, and work to link this to industry-academia cooperative research.

In addition, the following themes will be studied for new research directions by matching seeds and needs for the development and performance enhancement of construction materials and the rationalization and advancement of construction technology.

a) Development of construction materials with high strength and high toughness, and conversion of existing construction materials to high strength and high toughness
b) Development of environmentally friendly construction materials with CCUS functions, etc. and establishment of a recycling system
c) Development of construction materials with high durability and enhancement of durability of existing construction materials
d) Development of construction technology for quick, safe, and labor-saving construction with high reliability
e) Development and systematization of maintenance and management technologies
