R062 Committee on Metamaterials
Metamaterials are artificial media composed of an array of structures that are smaller than the wavelength of electromagnetic waves, and are attracting attention as a technology for achieving specific electromagnetic and light wave responses that cannot be obtained with natural materials. The development of metamaterials requires the integration of technologies from a wide range of fields, including materials science, microfabrication technology, chemistry, computational science, and measurement technology, in addition to theory. Furthermore, a wide range of technical knowledge and experience are essential for commercialization. However, it is extremely difficult for a single company or research institute to cover all these fields.
The purpose of this committee is to create a new venue for industry-academia cooperation where companies from different industries and fields work together across organizational and research boundaries, and to discuss technologies and directions for industrial applications in fields where expectations have been growing in recent years.
The purpose of this committee is to create a new venue for industry-academia cooperation where companies from different industries and fields work together across organizational and research boundaries, and to discuss technologies and directions for industrial applications in fields where expectations have been growing in recent years.
In this committee, corporate members and individual members will cooperate and discuss technologies in the fields of optics and electromagnetic waves, which have particularly strong market potential, through workshops and seminars. In this way, the knowledge of metamaterials and advanced technologies cultivated in universities and research institutes will be returned to Japanese companies in a timely manner to raise the level of corporate technological capabilities. In addition, we will organize tours of related companies and research institutes to promote technological collaboration among companies in different industries that straddle the boundaries between fields. In addition, by providing feedback on market trends and other information, we will lower the barriers to entry for new businesses in different fields and contribute to risk reduction. In addition, we will provide a forum for overseas trend surveys and international conference reports to update international technological and market trends.
