R054 Committee on Heat-Resistant Materials for Carbon Neutrality

Aims and Goals

This committee creates an industry-academia collaboration system for the research and development of heat-resistant materials to achieve higher temperatures and higher efficiency of heat engines. In order to contribute to the realization of carbon neutrality by 2050, this committee also promotes science and engineering for more advanced material performance, such as ultra-high temperature properties and extreme environment properties, and further improves Japan’s research capabilities in heat-resistant materials

Research Themes

The creation of innovative heat engines for achieving carbon neutrality requires (1) new material design concepts and (2) new heat-resistant material systems that transcend conventional combinations of iron, nickel, and chromium, as well as (3) new material processes, both from the perspective of heat resistance and environmental resistance. In this committee, academics and researchers engaged in basic research and engineers from industry who are involved in development and evaluation share issues related to heat-resistant materials, discuss solutions from a science and engineering perspective, and expand the circle of collaboration through research meetings held three times a year and special symposiums and facility tours held once a year.
