R051 Committee on Metallomics
Metallomics is an omics science that comprehensively elucidates the functions and roles of trace elements (particularly metals) in organisms. Bio-trace elements in living organisms are present in biomolecules such as proteins involved in biological responses and metabolic processes, as well as in the form of metal-containing small molecules. They play a significant role in diseases and health. In addition, there are several compounds known to show specific pharmacological effects as metal-containing drugs, which are also used as therapeutic and diagnostic agents. The purpose of this committee is primarily the development of analytical instruments/tools/techniques/methods that can maximize the information on bio-trace elements, and secondarily the development of metal-containing drugs as new diagnostic tools and modalities. We will collaborate and promote outcomes focusing on these two development objectives, involving cooperation between academia and industry.
- Technical Review Meeting
Through lectures and discussions by each committee member, mutual understanding will be achieved regarding the needs of industry and the seeds of metallomics research held by the academic community. In addition, the members from academia and industry will collaborate to discuss the social implementation of metallomics research.
- Invited lectures and symposiums at domestic and international academic conferences
We invite external experts from inside and outside of Japan to give lectures on the latest research activities and social trends. We will also plan symposiums to provide opportunities to widely disseminate the recent advances in metallomics research.
- Young Scientist Meeting
We will hold a research communication meeting on metallomics mainly for young members from academia and industry.
- Steering Committee (Closed)
The Steering Committee, consisting of representatives from academia and industry, discusses matters related to the management of the metallomics committee.
- General Assembly
All members from academia and industry are invited to attend the meeting (proxy is acceptable) and discuss the activity policy of the committee. The general assembly and information exchange meeting will be held at the same time to strengthen exchanges between industry and academia.
