Message from the JSPS President on the Awarding of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry to Dr. SOAI Kenso
October 9, 2026
I extend my sincerest congratulations to Dr. SOAI Kenso on being awarded the Nobel Prize.
Dr. Soai’s research concerns asymmetric organic synthesis. By elucidating that a minuscule chiral imbalance can be amplified through autocatalysis, Dr. Soai has made major contributions to the advancement of this field. These achievements have also received worldwide recognition for their potential to lead to a deeper understanding of the origin of homochirality in life.
Dr. Soai's receipt of this Nobel Prize demonstrates how research originating from researchers’ own ideas can, over many years, bear fruit as achievements of global significance. More broadly, the award underscores the importance of scientific research pursued across the spectrum, from basic to applied research.
For our part, JSPS will continue to support original and pioneering research inspired by researchers’ own ideas. While also working to advance diverse fields of science and foster the next generation of researchers, we will strive to contribute through scientific research to the betterment of society and the world.
