Background: JFFoS has its origins in a March 2005 discussion between the heads of JSPS, MAEE, MESR, and the CNRS on initiatives to promote exchange among young researchers, which was to become part of the framework of The Japan-France Summit Meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and French President Jacques Chirac. 2.
