Go Global Japan Project

Purpose

With an aim of contributing to the development of “economic society,” support is provided for the establishment of systems that programmatically strengthen students’ global adaptiveness via education aimed at fostering people capable of aggressively challenging global issues and playing active roles on the global stage. JSPS carries out application screening and project evaluation under this program.

Features

Type A: University-wide Type
Goals for campus-wide globalization are set in such areas as improving students’ foreign language proficiency, reforming faculty systems, and enhancing programs for sending students abroad. Concomitant activities are implemented to achieve these goals. Universities selected under this category are expected to take the lead in advancing university globalization within Japan by taking initiatives and carrying out activities that can contribute to progress toward globalization in other universities.
Type B: Faculty/school-specific Type
Goals are set and initiatives taken to globalize university education and research departments, which include improving students’ foreign language proficiency, reforming faculty systems, and enhancing programs for sending students abroad. Universities selected under this category are expected to take initiatives and carrying out activities that contribute to campus-wide globalization, including faculties and departments not selected under this program.

Type A: 11 universities
Type B: 31 universities

Funding period

Up to 5 years

Evaluation

Follow-up activities were carried out in the second year of the projects (FY 2013) and an interim evaluation in the third year (FY 2014). Follow-up activities will be carried out in FY 2015 and FY 2016, with a post-project evaluation conducted after the funding ends.
