Asian Science Seminar

Outline

Objective

Asian Science Seminar/Japan-India Forum for Advanced Study are held by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science(JSPS) to provide young researchers of Asian countries (including Japan) opportunities to undergo intensive training in areas of the latest academic research. Their aim is to contribute to the fostering of young researchers and to raise the standard of research in Asian countries. The seminars are jointly hosted by JSPS and its counterpart institutions, and are held in either Japan or a counterpart Asian country. The seminars comprise lectures by experts in the subject fields, discussions, practical training, study visits and other components.

Targeted Research Fields

All fields of the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences

Eligibility

(1) Attendees: Young researchers from Asia including Japan–about 40
(2) Lecturers: Researchers from mainly Asia, including Japan, and other countries–about 20 (The number to be adjusted based on seminar style and size.)

Seminar Period

Approximately 7-14 days

Funding (provisional)

  • (1) Total funding by JSPS: Up to 8 million yen (provisional)
    JSPS will cover:
    • 1) International transportation costs for Japanese lecturers and participants
    • Accommodation costs for Japanese participants
  • (2) Cost-sharing:
    Counterpart agency will cover:
    • 1) Travel and accommodation costs for their lecturers and participants
    • 2) Domestic travel, including excursions, for all participants
    • 3) Local costs for holding the seminar
