The role of video interfaces has risen more and more in human society. This international symposium on the future of video interfaces was held aiming at the construction of international ubiquitous IT society, on Monday, September 11, 2006 at Arcadia Ichigaya, Chiyoda City, Tokyo. The participant was 237 total people including 213 domestic people and 24 foreign people (United States, Britain, Germany, South Korea, China, Canada, Sweden, India, and Vietnam).
The presentations in this symposium were one keynote address from Yasuharu Suematsu (NII), three invited presentations from Oskar Blumtritt (Deutsches Museum), Hidenori Mimura (Shizuoka Univ.) and Joseph A. Flaherty (CBS), and five general presentations from Masayuki Sugawara (NHK), Mitsuru Kaneko (Tokyo Univ. of Technology), Masayuki Tanimoto (Nagoya Univ.), Masahiro Yamaguchi (Tokyo Tech), and Makoto Omodani (Tokai Univ.). In the invited session, early works of video display researches were discussed and forefront of visual interfaces was presented in the general session. Panel discussion on the visual interface toward the future was organized by Shinji Ozawa (Keio Univ.) with panelists of Kenkichi Tanioka (NHK), Yuichi Matsushima (NICT), Minoru Etoh (NTT Docomo), Kazuo Okamura (Panasonic) and Shunsuke Kobayashi (Tokyo Univ. of Science, Yamaguchi).
As the conclusion of this symposium, we confirmed that the initiative of visual interface by electric video devices was from the research and development of television system in 70-80 years ago. The future direction of the research and development about optoelectronics, visual technologies, broadcasting and communications fields, and human interfaces were suggested through the discussions. It was also expected to contribute greatly to growth of economy and industry, and safe and comfortable life. The proceedings of the symposium were distributed to various related organizations in the world.
This symposium was sponsored by IEEJ, IEICE, ITE, HCECI, and 130th Committee on Optoelectronics, and financially supported by JSPS and NICT. Takayanagi Foundation for Electronics Science and Technology also co-supported the symposium. All the committee members appreciate deeply to the persons concerned.
