9.Summary of Research Results
This research developed a tele-consultation system for orthopedics supporting pre-surgery planning and inter-surgery mentoring using three-dimensional medical imaging and image augmentation over Open-MRI. The developed system shows its potential for smooth communication and information sharing under remote surgery support.
This research realized integrated information support system for tele-surgery composed of Surgical Cockpit System that is an operators' console integrating multi screen system presenting numerous supporting information around operator's vision, application-level QoS communication library for selective data transmission under a communication channel with limited bandwidth, and several additional information support such as VR-based surgical simulators. Several tele-surgery trials had proven the effectiveness of the developed system to present user-friendly interface for operator and robust communication environment available for various kinds of surgical robots.
Through above-mentioned results and additional results under this project, this research opens up future clinical environment under advanced information technology, where the border between real and virtual diminishes, and where any kind of advanced information support and computer aided educations are available.
