9.Summary of Research Results
|
The research project named "Holonic Photonic Information Networks" has been progressed for five years from FY1996 to FY2000. As detail research objectives, we can count first, creation of infinite free space by using optical fiber, second, development of integrated technology between wireless access and optical fiber transmission, and third, creation of new photonic devices and challenges to the quantum optics technology. In this project, the fundamental architecture of the Holonic photonic information networks can be specified. As configuration technology of the concrete system, feasibility of most photonic oriented technology beyond the conventional OTDM and OWDM, such as DMUX, routing and switching techniques based on optical CDM has been clarified. Establishment of new Public key encryption and quantum encryption schemes and their empirical validations were performed. As results, construction policy of the reliable information networks ca be obtained. As for the devices to construct these photonic networks, through various studies about wavelength converter, fast switching, etc., detail new results were discovered. Furthermore, the technologies to enhance the network intelligence like the concepts of Flexible network and Personal navigation network have been studied. By integrating such highly intelligent network architecture into photonic network, concept of the holonic photonic information networks could be established. This project has novel features on progress; integration of the system level and device level studies cooperation between telecommunication and computer experts, new University Industry cooperative research, globally distributed collaboration, and test-bed construction combined the fruitful research results, and so on. From the viewpoint of way of research in new generation, also, successful results could be obtained. |
