9.Summary of Research Results
|
The environmental protection in the 21st century has been treated as a serious problem. Among others, those about environmental pollution and more effective utilization of resources are the issues to be solved very soon. On the other hand, as long as most amount of steel demand in Japan are expected to be produced ourselves, increasing amount of scrap use and slag minimization must be fully taken into account in the coming steelmaking processes for less CO2 emission, higher efficiency and less slag emission. In order to overcome these problems and to propose a new iron- and steelmaking process, the present project was established in 1996 with 6 university and 2 company researchers. The research has been carried out mainly in the University of Tokyo, and partially in Shimane University and Kyoto University. Several individual researches have been done in 3 groups, emission minimization and enrichment of the steelmaking by-products, solution of social problems with iron- and steelmaking processes, and new technology for using lower grade resources for the future. They were carried out on the basis of social needs, and the results were evaluated in from the standpoint of practical application, summarized as "An innovative iron- and steelmaking process harmonized with environment". They were reported in the International Conference on Steel and Society organized by ISIJ and our group in June 2000. Also, the final report for the "Research for the Future Project" will be conducted as JSPS 19th Steelmaking Committee Meeting at Sanjo-Kaikan, the University of Tokyo on May 15, 2001. |
