10.Summary of Research Results

In order to clarify the molecular medhanisms underlying reversible transformation of plant organelles, we analyzed the functional transformation of vacuoles and microbodies. The results are summarized as follows.
(1) Demonstration of a novel transport pathway of vacuolar proteins which is independent from Golgi-apparatus.
(2) Identification of a sorting receptor for vacuolar proteins.
(3) Molecular and functional characterization of vacuolar processing enzymes responsible for maturation of vacuolar proteins.
(4) Post-transcriptional regulation of matrix and membrane proteins of microbodies during the microbody transition.
(5) Isolation of peroxisome defective mutants of Arabidopsis and identification of these corresponding genes.
(6) Discovery of light-dependent alternative splicing in higher plants and characterization of the components in the splicing.
