10.Summary of Research Results
|
1. Studies with rats, i.e., multiple-task comparison of multiple neuronal activities recorded simultaneously, showed that hippocampal cell-assemblies encoded difference of tasks (context or situation). They also showed that the cell assembly encoding the task for processing of temporal events was completely included in the cell assembly encoding the task for processing of stimulus properties. 2. A study with monkeys succeeded training of a behavioral task suitable for investigating neuronal activity and their correlations underlying short-term retention of temporal information of stimuli. Multi-neuronal activities and their correlations in the prefrontal cortex during performance of the tasks are being analyzed by a newly developed system with software which made use of Independent Component Analysis (ICA). 3. A study with monkeys showed different roles in different motor-related areas for memory of new motor-visual association (prism adaptation). It also showed that functional relations among neurons in the premotor area changed dynamically in the process of learning of the prism adaptation. 4. A study with rats showed that c-Fos expression, an indicator of activated groups of neurons, in the neocortical areas changed dynamically among different memory tasks the rats were performing. The changed c-Fos were in the excitatory neurons only. 5. A study with mice are developing new transgenic mice to see the dendrites and axons of neuronal assemblies being activated during performance of memory tasks. |
