10.Summary of Research Results
1. Sulfide-based lithium ion conducting glasses were prepared by rapid melt-quenching and mechanical milling. The glasses exhibited high conductivities in the order of 10-4 Scm-1 at room temperature. The transport number of lithium ions of the glasses was almost unity and the potential window as solid electrolytes was wider than 10 V. 2. A variety of electrode materials for all solid state lithium batteries were developed; Li-Co-Ni-O positive electrode and Li-Si negative electrode are the examples. Electrochemical cells were constructed using sulfide based glasses as an electrolyte and those materials shown above as electrodes. The charge-discharge capacity was more than 70 mAhcm-2 till about the 10th cycle and became stable after the 10th cycle. 3. High temperature crystalline phase with high Li ion conduction in the Li-In-P-O system was successfully stabilized at room temperature. Thin films of the high temperature phase was successfully prepared by using an RF-sputtering procedure. 4. A variety of multi-valent ion conducting ceramics in the tungstate and phosphate based systems were developed and the transport number of multi-valent ions in these ceramics was confirmed to be almost unity. Single crystals were obtained for the trivalent ion conductors and the ion conduction mechanism was clarified on the basis of the results. Multi-valent ion conducting polymers were also successfully prepared. 5. Multi-valent ion conducting ceramics were applied in new type gas sensors as a solid electrolyte.
