10.Summary of Research Results
|
The episodic memory system is classified into the two subsystems according to the span of memory time; short-term memory (hippocampus) and long-term memory (association cortices). Dynamic interactions between the two subsystems play an important role in storing and retrieving memory contents. Based on the physiological experiments of the LTP/LTD in the hippocampal neural networks and the hippocampal-auditory cortical interaction in guinea pig, we proposed a model of hippocampal-cortical memory system and implemented it in learnable neurotips. The model algorithms are the following ; 1). A spatio-temporal learning rule which consistently interpreted the experimental results of LTP/LTD in the hippocampus was used to make a context (global information) from spatial and temporal events (local information). 2). The local-global information worked as an index (addressor) in storing and retrieving long-term memory contents. 3). A dynamic cell assembly formed by the time-coincidence played an important role in the memory storing and retrieving processes. |
