10.Summary of Research Results
|
The following research results have obtained through this project. 1. Using several VSAT systems, we observed precisely effects caused by airplanes and rainfall on the link and analyzed the effects minutely. When airplanes fly below the altitude of 1000[m] and cross the antenna beam, we found that they damage seriously the link and obtained a guideline to the design of space diversity. If rain intensity is under 50[mm/h], we obtained a possibility to predict the quality of link per hour. For heavy rain of more than 50[mm/h], in the case of heavy rain, we showed the availability of a space diversity with about 10[km] separation. To realize high-speed satellite communications, we presented some distributed systems on the basis of these effects. 2. To develop a multimedia wireless LAN connected to a satellite communication system through a dedicated earth station, we considered high-speed digital transmission schemes, multimedia multiplexed communication methods, and error resilient image transmission schemes. As a result, we obtained a high-speed digital transmission scheme with adaptive carrier selection, dynamic packet multiplexing schemes with carrier sensing for cellular systems, and image transmission schemes without automatic repeat request. 3. The quality of communication channel changes dynamically and the delay of transmission is so long on the computer network constructed by satellite communication channel. We at first presented a mechanism which controls the capacity of communication and investigated the efficiency of the mechanism using a computer simulation of satellite communication link; next showed the validity of a flexible server selection mechanism we presented by using Domain Name Service; finally examined a control mechanism for force communication which performs against transmission delay. 4. We investigated Quality of Service (QoS) requirements from the viewpoint of applications and developed several QoS-based multimedia communication systems for different application domains. Our practice and experience with such multimedia communication system showed the feasibility and effectiveness of our system architectures and communication protocols on advanced telecommunication system in the future. |
