10.Summary of Research Results
|
We had been researching the following basic themes during the first term of this research until 1998, and we got excellent results: Researches on the basic theory and applications for agent-oriented computing; Researches on agent-oriented programming languages and systems; and Researches on physical agents. Applied prototype systems have been implemented, based our research up to 2000, for mobile software agents and bilaterally controlled physical agents. The results suggest that they would provide new applications for both software and hardware technologies. For software agents, we strengthened functions of AgentSpace, such as the execution speed, independence from protocols and security, applied the system to the new type of user-following mobile agents, and using them, implemented a prototype of a patient-guiding mobile agent system. For physical agents, we implemented a bilateral control system, using real-time agents, real-time communication and real-time action that we have done research in our project. For the real-time communication, we implemented RT-Messenger, a new communication software that realizes the exchange of information within 1 msec. Also, we succeeded in implementing the on-board Responsive Processor, and an operating system for it. The results provide us the developing tools for distributed real-time agents. These results were presented at AOC, the Agent-Oriented Computing International Symposium, held in February, 2001. |
