Sugimura and Mr. Saturo Endo for Japan; and Drs. R. Adamson, M. Friedman, T. Kakefuda, R. Miller and F. Welsch for the United States. The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Drs. Miwa and Welsch. All participants, and in particular, Drs. Adamson and Sugimura, congratulated those present for the success of the joint workshops and scientist exchange programs.
Drs. Adamson and Sugimura reviewed progress for the Etiology Program Area, Dr. Hamaoka for the Biology and Diagnosis Area, Drs. Friedman and Ogawa for the Treatment Area, and Drs. Miller and Sugano for the Interdisciplinary Program Area. Detailed progress is summarized in the preceding Progress Reports.
After lunch, partially hosted by NCI, the above-mentioned scientists reviewed program plans for 1993-94 for each of their program areas. Details of programs planned for 1993-94 will appear as summary of the actual program during that period of time.
The participants agreed that the next Joint Steering Committee Meeting will be held in Seattle, June 23-24, 1994, to include a visit to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (FHCC). One or more representatives of the FHCC will be invited to highlight the center's activities.
The meeting closed at 5:00 p.m. after remarks by Drs. Adamson and Sugimura. The meeting was followed by a working dinner, hosted by the JSPS, and attended by scientists and physicians of Hokkaido University and Sapporo Medical College.
Discussions between the parties continued June 19.
