SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES

The principal objective of the Treatment Program Area is to identify therapies of enhanced benefit. These therapies may be directed at local or systemic disease and are frequently multimodal. An improvement in survival and qualify of life are the major endpoints to be strived for.
During this reporting period these seminars were held. The first was on November 13-14, 1989, in San Francisco and was entitled, “Research Directions of New BRM and Cytotoxic Treatment.” This conference explored new combinations of agents of promising therapeutic importance. The second conference was held on March 16-18, 1990, in Kyoto and was entitled, “Radiation Oncology.” New developments in treatment planning and delivery and combined modality therapy were discussed. The third seminar was held on February 19-20, 1990, in Hawaii and was entitled, “New Drugs under Development.” A variety of cytotoxic and biologic agents undergoing phase I and 11 testing were discussed.
