B. EXCHANGE OF SCIENTISTS

1)~3) E.A. KNAPP, M.D., Director, LAMPF, Los Alamos, New Mexico J.R. CASTRO, Professor, Berkeley Lab., Univ. of Calif., Berkeley, and M. GOITEIN, Ph.D., Harvard Medical School, Philadelphia, visited Japan in May 1979 to set up the cooperative program of high LET radiotherapy between the both countries.

4) NOBORU HORIKOSHI, M.D., Section Chief, Department of Clinical Oncology, Cancer Institute Hospital, Japanese Foundation for Cancer Research, was dispatched to the University of Texas System Cancer Center Houston, Texas, for one month from November 4, 1979, and studied the system of acceptance of breast cancer patients and also diagnosis and treatment at the Medical Breast Service in the M.D. Anderson Hospital under the supervision of Dr. Emil J. Freireich. Besides he visited San Francisco to see Drs. S.K. Carter and M. Friedman to inspect the activities of Northern California Oncology Group.

C. Exchange of Materials

A vigorous exchange of chemicals has been carried out. The data of screening, as well as some number of compounds themselves, were put into the screening program of NCI, USA, and also several cancer drugs of interest in Phase I and II were sent from NCI to Japanese clinical investigators by mediation of the Japanese coordinator’s office.
