FUTURE ACTIVITIES IN RADIATION RELATED BREAST CANCER STUDY
- Dr. Henson, NCI and Dr. Tokunaga, Kagoshima University have been preparing a joint report of this collaborative study of radiation related breast cancer at Pathology Laboratory, NCI, NIH.
- All participants agreed to analyse possible changes in the breast tissue attributable to atomic-bomb irradiation. Dr. Toshio Fujikura, Head, Department of Pathology, RERF will provide a sufficient number of pathological specimens for this study under the cooperation of the NCI and RERF with close liaison to the US-Japan Cooperative Cancer Research Program.
- American and Japanese groups agreed to examine histological changes of the breast tissue in preoperatively irradiated breast cancer cases. This study would reveal acute radiation damage of the breast tissue around cancerous nodules. Dr. Robert V. P. Hutter, New Jersey and Dr. Tokunaga reviewed pathological slides of such cases at St. Barnabas Hospital, New Jersey and Dr. Haruo Sugano and Dr. Goi Sakamoto will review cases at Cancer Institute, Tokyo. They will discuss abnormalities observed in different materials.
