Outline
The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and European Science Foundation (ESF) select the conference themes and the Co-Chairs (one European, one Japanese) for each conference. The conference is held once a year with its venue alternating between Japan and Europe.
Format
- Participants lodge together for about a week
- Keynote speeches by the invited speakers, discussions and poster sessions between the invited speakers and the participants
- JSPS and ESF bear the conference, travel and lodging costs for the participants
Co-Chairs
- Determine the structure of the sessions in line with the subject theme
- Select the invited speakers and participants
- Organize the entire conference
Invited Speakers
- About 20 leading international researchers from Japan and Europe
- Selected by the Co-Chairs
Participants
- Young Japanese or European researchers, who are doing outstanding and innovative work in their fields (must either have obtained a doctoral degree within 10 years prior to the conference or are scheduled to obtain a doctoral degree no later than 18 months after the conference)
- About 50 Japanese and European researchers
- Participants to be selected by the European Co-Chair and JSPS through open call for applications
Expected Outcome
- Active joint-research and researcher exchanges are expected between Japan and Europe
- Follow-up for the conference may be planned depending on researcher exchange situation
