Dramatic progress is continuing today in Internet technology, and there is an urgent need to swiftly respond to industrial, governmental, and educational requirements, as well as to those of society as a whole.
The research needed at this point involves developing fundamental technologies to create networks that will give rise to global information infrastructures. In addition, research into adaptive technologies for achieving depth of activity and into usage environments is necessary.
With the goal of handling this basic and applied research flexibly and quickly, the committee uses its foundation of wide-ranging interaction among researchers and technicians to act as the nucleus for implementing specific research through academia-industry cooperation and adroitly focuses on new, important topics.
