Aims and Goals

For the future trends of electrical engineering, computers, mobile communications, etc., it is clear that there is a strong demand for R&D initiatives addressing the basic properties and applications of ultralight, ultrasmall, high-performance acoustic wave device components capable of adequately responding to the rapid development of communications technologies that has sprung from revolutionary information technologies.

Especially because acoustic wave device technology belongs to one of the interdisciplinary research fields, the committee aims to develop new acoustic wave devices that bring about a revolution in communications systems by promoting close collaboration among researchers specializing in electronics, communication, information, machinery and materials, and to develop methods and technologies to elucidate acoustic wave problems identified one after another through close cooperation among researchers from industry, the government, and academia.


Research Themes

1. Development of new materials for acoustic wave devices and establishment of basic theory
2. Enhancement of the functionality and performance of acoustic wave devices
3. Elucidation of nonlinear acoustic wave phenomena and device research based on new principles
4. Enhancement of the performance and functionality of actuators, including ultrasonic motors
5. Enhancement of the performance and functionality of various devices for mobile communications
6. Development of sensors based on acoustic waves, including piezoelectric gyros and surface acoustic wave sensors
7. Identification of new relevant technologies surrounding acoustic wave devices and the prediction of future technological developments
