Construction materials need to have the requisite safety, utility, durability, etc., for use in a variety of different of conditions. Further, because construction materials are generally used in huge amounts, there is an extremely strong need to meet the expectations of society regarding resource and energy conservation, effective use of industrial waste products, and so on. These issues have been studied actively in the fields of civil engineering, construction, and chemistry, with numerous new technologies developed and put to use.
This committee brings researchers and technicians from different fields together so that they can maintain close links while exchanging information and opinions about the latest technologies and about issues related to construction materials. This furthers the goal of comprehensive research related to future methods for developing technologies, to the direction of the development, to what forms the development will take, and so forth.
| 1. | Research into technologies for effective use of construction materials that furthers global environmental protection |
|---|---|
| 2. | Research into development of high-performance, highly functional construction materials |
| 3. | Research into technologies to improve the durability of structures |
| 4. | Research into technologies to improve the safety of structures |
| 5. | Research into the diagnosis, maintenance, repair, retrofit, renewal, etc., of structures |

Gatherings are held six times a year, featuring topic presentations, panel discussions, and symposiums on themes of great interest at the time. One of the gatherings features study tours to conduct research into construction that uses the latest technologies and into historically valuable structures.
