1. What prompted you decide to participate in the "JSPS Science Dialogue" program?
This program is a very nice opportunity to give young students an understanding of what people do in research and share the fascination of science. Seeing a high school from the inside is also a good opportunity to learn more about Japanese society.
2. To what did you give greatest attention in preparing and giving the lecture?
I was trying to use simple English and use only concepts for explanations that should be known to students at that level. Also, I was trying to give some links to things the students know from daily life
3. Did you find it difficult to give a lecture in English to Japanese students? Could you give some advice to future lecturers on how to facilitate communication with Japanese students?
It can be difficult to understand whether or not the students can follow the lecture. Activities and demonstrations help to get the students involved. If possible a two-hour lecture should be preferred. Spare time can easily be filled up by activities, Q&A or less intensive information about home countries.
4. Could you give your impression with regard to participating in this program?
A very good experience.
5. Was it meaningful in terms of your fellowship activities?
It was meaningful in terms of teaching experience and trying to reach non-experts.
6. In what ways do you think the students benefited from the program?
I hope the lecture could broaden the students' horizon a little bit and give them a grasp of what researchers do. It should also help them to understand Swiss accents in future.
7. Could you give some overall advice or comments to future participants in the program?
It is a very good experience so everyone who has the chance should participate.
