1. What prompted you decide to participate in the "JSPS Science Dialogue" program?
I always enjoyed teaching and this is a good opportunity to do some in Japan. Also its very nice for the school children to listen in English to some science research.
2. To what did you give greatest attention in preparing and giving the lecture?
Getting the right level of science was important and using fun ways teach it.
3. Did you find it difficult to give a lecture in English to Japanese students? Could you give some advice to future lecturers on how to facilitate communication with Japanese students?
It's important to plan a lot in advance, make the lecture interesting, and use some demonstration experiments so the students can understand visually as well.
4. Could you give your impression with regard to participating in this program?
It's a very nice chance for the students, and for JSPS fellows to interact together. I enjoyed it very much.
5. Was it meaningful in terms of your fellowship activities?
It's useful to think about how to explain your research at a non specialist level.
6. In what ways do you think the students benefited from the program?
The students could practice their English skills, learn some science and also learn about a foreign country. I think meeting people from foreign countries is an important learning experience!
7. Could you give some overall advice or comments to future participants in the program?
Try to give a lot of introduction to your research and use visual aids to help the students understanding.
I'm a big fan of powerpoint animations, and I think a few simple animations can make key ideas much more understandable.
