Comments from Dr. Znad

1. What prompted you decide to participate in the "JSPS Science Dialogue" program?

I like teaching very much. I enjoy speaking about my research and sharing it with others, particularly the high school students, also I was interested to see a high school in Japan and learn more about the educational system in Japan.

2. To what did you give greatest attention in preparing and giving the lecture?

To make my lecture as easy as possible to understand without reducing the valuable scientific facts which I want to address to high School students level.

3. Did you find it difficult to give a lecture in English to Japanese students? Could you give some advice to future lecturers on how to facilitate communication with Japanese students?

For me I didn't find it's difficult to give a lecture in English to Takasaki high school students, simply because they are very clever students and can understand English well when talking slowly. However, using more illustrations (pictures, animations,...etc), talk English clearly and slowly, in addition to the accompanied specialized person (host or colleagues), would simplify the communication greatly.

4. Could you give your impression with regard to participating in this program?

I appreciate it very much. It is all the way a successful program. I would be happy to try it again if given the chance.

5. Was it meaningful in terms of your fellowship activities?

Yes definitely it was a meaningful.

6. In what ways do you think the students benefited from the program?

I think such a program for high school students, is very necessary to encourage them to study hard to be a scientist, as the students will meet many scientists and researchers from all over the world, talk with them face to face and listen to their experience for success.

7. Could you give some overall advice or comments to future participants in the program?

I urge all the JSPS fellows to participate in this program for the benefit of both of you. Make your lecture as simple as possible, add more Japanese translation for your slides, and make your lecture more interesting by add more pictures, animations.
