1. What prompted you decide to participate in the "JSPS Science Dialogue" program?
China has a proverb: To teach is to learn. It is a good teaching experience. I was very excited to accept the invitation to participate this program.
2. To what did you give greatest attention in preparing and giving the lecture?
I tried to use a lot of animations and a few of words on the slides to help the students follow my explanations.
3. Did you find it difficult to give a lecture in English to Japanese students? Could you give some advice to future lecturers on how to facilitate communication with Japanese students?
I was helpful to write and speak key points in Japanese, to help students accept the new technical terms quickly. Some topics in my talk are based on the textbook that the teacher of high school sent me ahead of the event. It is not boring for students to communicate familiar things.
4. Could you give your impression with regard to participating in this program?
The students asked me many questions in English. The event was very well organized, and it was very enjoyable to participate.
5. Was it meaningful in terms of your fellowship activities?
Doing a lecture for non-specialist audience made me think at a more general level. I get interested in participating outreach activities.
6. In what ways do you think the students benefited from the program?
It is useful for the students to understand the meaning of studying science and rouse their curiosity of doing research.
7. Could you give some overall advice or comments to future participants in the program?
Try to make lecture a bit fun and including as much as demonstration experiments.
