Comments from Dr. Akindele

1. What prompted you decide to participate in the "JSPS Science Dialogue" program?

On completion of my undergraduate studies at the University of Leicester, UK, I resolved to use every opportunity to educate students on the importance of science. Hence, participation in the "JSPS Science Dialogue" program gave me the opportunity to accomplish this goal.

2. To what did you give greatest attention in preparing and giving the lecture?

Much attention was placed on the level of scientific detail in the lecture as well as its structure. I wanted to give a lecture that linked familiar topics with unfamiliar ones.

3. Did you find it difficult to give a lecture in English to Japanese students? Could you give some advice to future lecturers on how to facilitate communication with Japanese students?

I did not find it difficult to lecture in English to Japanese students. I would suggest that future lecturers give their lecture with slow speech using simple vocabulary. They should also use the words of the students without distorting the intended message.

4. Could you give your impression with regard to participating in this program?

It was a fulfilling experience for me to participate in the program. Giving a scientific talk to curious students is a wonderful experience.

5. Was it meaningful in terms of your fellowship activities?

Being a JSPS fellow, it is my duty to promote science locally and globally. In this context, taking part in the "JSPS Science Dialogue" program has contributed to my fellowship activities.

6. In what ways do you think the students benefited from the program?

To my mind, the lecture stimulated the students to study science beyond senior high school. This was evident in their intelligent questions and answers.

7. Could you give some overall advice or comments to future participants in the program?

Future lecturers should structure their talks in such a way that the students are introduced to new scientific principles from familiar concepts. Their lecture should inspire the students who are destined to become the next pioneers of modern science.
