1. What prompted you decide to participate in the "JSPS Science Dialogue" program?
I wish to contribute to exchange between science and students. I also wish to meet Japanese school students in real setting.
2. To what did you give greatest attention in preparing and giving the lecture?
To slides and to language. To making my difficult subject understandable to students.
3. Did you find it difficult to give a lecture in English to Japanese students? Could you give some advice to future lecturers on how to facilitate communication with Japanese students?
Yes. Since their level was low. My advice is to cut lecture into 2-3 parts and make breaks. Young students cannot listen to a lecture in English for 1 hour. Also to make as many pictures as possible.
4. Could you give your impression with regard to participating in this program?
It was a great experience, and I recommend others to participate!
5. Was it meaningful in terms of your fellowship activities?
Yes. It is always useful to try to explain my research to a different auditorium! It is a challenge!
6. In what ways do you think the students benefited from the program?
Students are exposed to a different way of lecture. They see and listen about experience of becoming a researcher. I hope they will be curious to try research themselves.
7. Could you give some overall advice or comments to future participants in the program?
I think it is a great experience. It is both challenging and rewarding! I would like to see more interaction like this.
