Comments from Dr. Scheu

1. What prompted you decide to participate in the "JSPS Science Dialogue" program again?

My previous participation was a very good experience. Besides that I think that it is important to introduce science by scientists to public and school students and the "JSPS Science Dialogue" is a good platform for it.

2. To what did you give greatest attention in preparing and giving the lecture at Tsuru highschool?

I simplified a few slides shortened the lecture, respectively. Besides that I tried to adjust the explanation that I found last time little bit hard to understand by the students to an even easier level.

3. Did you find it difficult to give a lecture in English to Japanese students this time?
If you have additional advice to future lecturers on how to facilitate communication with Japanese students, could you give it to them?

Same answer as last time. I did not found it difficult, but I trained again to use easy English and slow speed of speaking.

4. Could you give your impression with regard to participating in this program as your second lecture?

I found my impression from last time confirmed: I think this is an excellent program. So I am happy that I could contribute to it again. I think all involved people were very enthusiastic about it, in that way it was very stimulating and enjoyable.

5. Was doing another lecture meaningful in terms of your fellowship activities?

Same as last time.

6. In what ways do you think the students in Tsuru highschool benefited from the program?

Well, I heard that they could use their knowledge gained from my lecture for another lesson they attended soon after. That might gave them a positive feedback and interested them even more for science.

7. Could you give some overall advice or comments to future participants in the program if you have?

Same as last time: easy English is essential, and many pictures and movies help also. Actually just show that good science is not only serious but also thrilling and fun.
