1. What prompted you decide to participate in the "JSPS Science Dialogue" program?
I decided to participate in the "JSPS Science Dialogue" program because it was a good chance for me to communicate with Japanese students and to let them know some information about dioxin pollution in Vietnam.
2. To what did you give greatest attention in preparing and giving the lecture?
I tried to let students understand the basic of hematologic malignancies and the relation of dioxin exposure with cancer. I noticed that many Japanese students expressed their interest in dioxin issue. Japanese and Vietnamese people suffered from very similar dangers of war in the past: atomic bomb in Japan and dioxin pollution in Vietnam. Through my lecture, I believed that Japanese students understand more about Vietnamese situation, which will promote our future cooperation in early detection as well as prevention of malignancies induced by dioxin.
3. Did you find it difficult to give a lecture in English to Japanese student? Could you give some advice to future lecturers on how to facilitate communication with Japanese students?
I did not find any difficulties because my slides were prepared both in English and in Japanese. Furthermore, my supervisor Dr. Sato kindly provided a short talk in Japanese for explaining basic knowledge of hematologic malignancies and dioxin pollution during my lecture.
4. Could you give your impression with regard to participating in this program?
I am very happy to participate in this program. It was a delightful experience for me.
5. Was it meaningful in terms of your fellowship activities?
To contact with young Japanese students while staying in Japan will help me to understand Japanese culture. Therefore, it was quite meaningful for my fellowship activities.
6. In what ways do you think the students benefited from the program?
I think they have a chance to know the advanced sciences and to understand how important research is.
7. Could you give some overall advice or comments to future participants in the program?
Prepare slides as simple as possible, provide a handout and explain in an easy way.
