Comments from Dr. Arvelyna

1.  What prompted you decide to participate in the "JSPS Science Dialogue" program?

I interested at “JSPS Science Dialogue” program to share my research activities to young fellows in High School. I wish they would have good understanding at research activity on environment and ocean.

2.  To what did you give greatest attention in preparing and giving the lecture?

I gave greatest attention on how I conducted my research to solve problem in ocean monitoring using efficient way and shown the results.

3.  Did you find it difficult to give a lecture in English to Japanese students? Could you give some advice to future lecturers on how to facilitate communication with Japanese students?

For better understanding in the research activity contents, I gave my presentation in Japanese. I could communicated well with the students and teachers. My advice, I think everyone in high school would give his/her best in English communication. If they cannot understand the question or the phrase, you should talk more slowly.

4.  Could you give your impression with regard to participating in this program?

I have nice impression in attending this program. Everyone in Shimizu High School was enthusiast. I hope to participate in this program again.

5.  Was it meaningful in terms of your fellowship activities?

Participating this program was meaningful in my fellowship activities. Since I could share and have a feedback on my research. I feel happy if I could motivated them in doing research on environment and ocean theme, since we would have a lot of problems regarding to elevation of earth’s temperature.

6.  In what ways do you think the students benefited from the program?

I think the students would have a view on how the research is conducted, how the data is processed and how the new idea is born. They would also have another new view about how to solve big problem in efficient way.

7.  Could you give some overall advice or comments to future participants in the program?

I wish they communicate to the high school on the presentation contents before. Since every high school has different demand on the program. Do not be hesitated to give a speech in front of hundreds of student, you will find it as an interesting experience.
