Comments from Dr.Zaman

My feeling is that students should be motivated at high school level to learn science by presenting the research experiences. JSPS Science Dialogue Program is the best opportunity to organize such lectures/seminars in Japanese High Schools.

I discussed with the school teacher for preparing the lecture/presentation. We divided the presentation in two parts
1. Cultural aspects of Pakistan
2. Research work in Florida

I requested graduate students from our laboratory to translate each slide in Japanese. During the presentation, I explained each slide in simple English and graduate student explained the same in Japanese. So, it worked very well and school students took part actively and discussed many issues related to Precision agriculture in Florida Citrus and Japan.

I think these types of seminars are very useful for high school students to get knowledge about research going on in different countries on different aspects. By this way the students would be motivated to conduct research experiments more effectively.
It is also good opportunity for foreign researchers to learn about Japanese culture and high school teaching system through communication/discussion with students, teachers and principal of the school.

In my opinion, the involvement of school teacher and host professor/researcher or Japanese graduate student is very important to translate the lecture from English to Japanese. The high school students would be able to understand the lecture easily.
I hope JSPS SPS Science Dialogue Program will be continued.
