The reason for choosing Japan to conduct research
When I finished my PhD in Belgium, I wanted to discover how people do research in other countries and I thought it would be a great opportunity to discover another culture as well. Since Japan has both high level research facilities and a culture that is very different from European’s one, I thought it would be the best place to do a Post-Doc.
Research achievements
By our research, we contributed in developing the guanidinium base aziridine formation chemistry based synthetic approaches to Mitomycin C’s skeleton. These results have been presented in international conferences in both Japan and Belgium.
Advice to new fellows
Japan is an amazing country but as it is quite different from other countries, you have better be prepared before coming. My advice would be to learn the language as much as you can, try to always keep an open mind and enjoy the differences.
