Japan-Germany Scientific Symposium
"Urban Planning — Sustainable Cities"

Japan Society for the Promotion of Science(JSPS) and German JSPS-Club will hold the above titled symposium on September 12 (Monday) at the National Olympics Memorial Youth Center (Yoyogi, Tokyo). This symposium is a part of activities for "Germany in Japan Year 2005/2006" and intends to celebrate the 10th anniversary of establishing the German JSPS-Club.

At this symposium, we will choose the area of "environment", because environment issues are highly interested by both Japan and Germany as well as the rest of world, and especially Germany is internationally renowned as the country of advanced research in this area. Under the main theme of "Urban Planning — Sustainable Cities", we prepare the following 3 topics;
  1. Concepts of a Sustainable City
  2. Technical Solutions, and
  3. Social Impact of Urban Planning
The lecture of each topic will be presented by the members of German JSPS-Club as well as German researchers(3 persons) and Japanese researchers(3 persons) who have experienced joint researches under the JSPS programs. Each lecturer will talk about the current status and the actual result of advanced research, in addition, referring to the future prospect of this subject as well as proposing the idea to stimulate joint research between Japan and Germany. After the lecture, participants will join the discussion.

This symposium uses English as the official language, therefore all the lectures and discussions are introduced in English.
