Eminent Scientist in French Literature visits JSPS
The JSPS Award for Eminent Scientists is a program carried out to invite distinguished researchers, such as Nobel laureates, to Japan for the purpose of contributing to the overall advancement of scientific research in Japan. On April 17, 2009, Prof. Antoine Compagnon, who was selected under the FY2009 award program, visited and exchanged views with JSPS president Prof. Motoyuki Ono.
As a professor of College de France, one of France’s top institutions of higher education, and as a world-renowned literary scholar, Prof. Compagnon has authored numerous books and articles on the history and theory of literature and culture. Included among them are the works of Proust and Montaigne. During this visit to Japan, Prof. Compagnon gave lectures at several universities including Kyoto, Keio, Tokyo, Tohoku, Rikkyo and Chuo.
The conversation between Prof. Compagnon and Prof. Ono began with the literature of Proust and went on to French literature research in Japan and systems to support research in the humanities in Japan and France.
