The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) has established the following contact point for receiving allegations about research misconduct and misuse of research funds in programs implemented by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, in accordance with the Guidelines for Responding to Misconduct in Research (Ministry of Education Culture, Sports, Science and Technology; adopted August 26, 2014) and the Guidelines on the Management and Audit of Public Research Funds at Research Institutions (Ministry of Education Culture, Sports, Science and Technology; adopted February 15, 2007; amended February 18, 2014).

Points to note in regard to lodging allegations

  1. Please understand that in principle, investigations into misconduct and misuse by researchers affiliated with research institutions are handled by the applicable research institution itself.
  2. When receiving an allegation, we will confirm matters including the name, affiliation, and contact details of the complainant (person lodging the allegation), the researcher/research group alleged to have perpetrated the misconduct or misuse, the nature of the alleged misconduct or misuse, the scientifically rational basis for the allegation of misconduct or the rational basis for the allegation of misuse, and the category/name of research grant involved. Please also note that we may request the complainant to cooperate with our investigations, and in the event that the allegation is judged to have been lodged out of malice, the complainant may have their name published or be subject to criminal charges.
