JAPAN-FRANCE INTEGRATED ACTION PROGRAM
SAKURA and AYAME Junior
2010 APPLICATION GUIDELINES

Contents
  • The Program
  • The SAKURA program, established in 2003, is jointly managed and funded by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), the Ministère des Affaires Etrangères et Européennes in France (MAEE), and the Ministère de l’Eenseignement Ssuperieur et de la Rrecherche (MESR). The program aims to generate international networks between promising young researchers (*). It supports the establishment of innovative Japanese-French scientific collaborations led by young researchers between higher educational establishments or research organizations in Japan and France. Long-established collaborations will not, in principal, receive the highest priority.

In 2005, The French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control (INRIA) and JSPS concluded a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen scientific cooperation in the area of Information and Communication Science and Technology by adding a supplementary category, called “AYAME Junior Program,” to the SAKURA Program.

(*) The following programs are recommended for established researchers:

    JSPS-CNRS Joint projects/seminars
    JSPS-INSERM Joint projects
    JSPS-INRA Joint projects
JSPS-INRIA Joint projects (AYAME Senior Program)

    (a) For Japanese researchers

check Support for their international travel and subsistence allowances for short-term exchange visits (less than 1 month), which are an essential part of collaborative projects, and their domestic travel and subsistence allowances and research expenses when necessary.
check A maximum grant for each project of ¥1,000,000 per year.

    (b) For French researchers

In exceptional cases, a third year's support may be provided under advice by the joint selection committee.
