AimTo strengthen the scientific research network within Asia, it is desirable to establish a network among the region's research councils and funding institutions. This is because the network among these institutions has been relatively weak and less developed than such activities in western countries. Given this background, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and its counterpart institutions in the region will organize a series of meetings titled "ASIAHORCs (Asian Heads of Research Councils)." Their purpose will be to build and strengthen the network among the research councils and funding institutions that bear responsibility for advancing scientific research in the Asian region. In the first meeting of ASIAHORCs ("ASIAHORCs 2007"), the heads or representatives of ten research councils and funding institutions in Asia will meet to exchange views and information on trends in science and technology policy, issues related to scientific research and society in each country, and challenges in expanding international collaboration. These candid discussions are expected to deepen mutual understanding. An exchange of views on a future vision of ASIAHORCs and the possibility of research collaboration among the members towards realizing it is expected to create an infrastructure upon which to build a future Asian S&T community. ASIAHORCs is expected to serve as a platform for future research collaboration at an Asian community level. The Date and the VenueNovember 27 (Tue) to 30 (Fri), 2007 Participants
