International Workshop on Space and Lithosphere Environment Changes in Asia

The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and the Space Environment Research Center of Kyushu University jointly held the International Workshop on Space and Lithosphere Environment Changes in Asia for five days starting from 10 November, 2008.

At the Workshop, the results of cutting-edge research conducted by Japanese and US/ European researchers on seismo-electomagnetic phenomenon were presented and discussed with an eye to developing scientific technologies for mitigating damage caused by earthquakes and volcanic eruptions in the Asian region.

Various techniques were introduced and shared by the participants, including a tsunami surveillance system tested and operated in Indonesia that will provide the basis for globally-applicable technologies for mitigating damage from crustal activities in the future.
