March 6, 20081st China-Japan Science Forum and Academia SummitIn Beijing, on March 6, 2008, the JSPS Beijing Office held the1st China-Japan Science Forum on Environmental Changes—Bio-Resources and Global Warming and Academia Summit on Strategies for Building Research Networks in East Asia. During the forum, the latest results obtained from China-Japan collaborative research programs were discussed in 6 sessions: 1) Resilience and vulnerability of land systems in East Asia, 2) Sustainable use of fisheries resources, 3) Sustainable management of water resources, 4) Global warming governance, 5) Risk governance in sustainability, and 6) Efficient utilization of biomass and bio-energy. A spirited exchange of views took place. An Academia Summit followed, in which researchers from universities and research institutions in China and Japan made proposals on priority themes for Sino-Japanese joint research on environmental changes, bio-resources and global warming, and began building a network for advancing such research. The forum provided an opportunity to verify the extent to which work on the theme-related issues is being undertaken in each country. The various project proposals were compiled in the Chair's Summary. These research topics are expected to contribute to the discussion of the G8 University. Presidents' Meeting on "Global Warming and Sustainable Development", to be held in conjunction with the G8 Summit in July 2008.
