Workshop on "Japan-China Innovative Talent Cultivation and Exchange" Held

Co-organized by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), the Japan-China Organization for Business, Academia & Government Partnership (an incorporated nonprofit organization), the China Education Association for International Exchange, and the Administrative Committee of Zhongguancun Science Park, this workshop was held in Beijing on March 7, 2007.

Its aim was to expand international exchange and cooperation among universities, research institutes, and business enterprises in the two countries and to strengthen bilateral human resource networks by engaging intellectuals from both countries in a discussion on the challenges of fostering talented young people and promoting exchanges among them within the Asian region.

Following keynote presentations by Prof. Akito Arima (President of the Japan Science Foundation, former Minister of Education) and Prof. Zhong Binglin (Vice President of China Education Association for International Exchange, President of Beijing Normal University), representatives of academia, government and industry in both countries gave lectures and held discussions in three sessions: (1) Innovation Policy and Related Institutions in Japan and China, (2) Measures for Talent Cultivation and Exchange in the Academia, Government and Industrial Sectors, and (3) Case Studies and Their Implications for Talent Cultivation and Exchange. About 150 people participated actively in the sessions.

The workshop facilitated sharing of views and helped to cultivate mutual understanding on the challenges and prospects of Japanese and Chinese innovation strategies, fostering and utilizing talented human resource, and promoting international exchange and cooperation between the two countries.
