International Workshop"International Collaboration for Formation and Development of Science and Technology Community in Southeast Asia" Held
The International workshop titled as “International Collaboration for Formation and Development of Science and Technology Community in Southeast Asia” was held at Rembrandt Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand on 12 – 14 February, 2007. At he workshop, Prof. Yongyuth Yuthavong, Minister of S&T of Thailand, Prof. Anond Bunyaratvej, Secretary–General of National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), Prof. Montri Chulavantnatol, Director of Agricultural Research Development Agency (ARDA), Prof. Sakarindr Bhumiratana, President of National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), and other distinguished researchers and from Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Viet Nam participated in the workshop.
Aiming to build S&T Community in Southeast Asia, participants (researchers and administrators) from Japan and Southeast Asian couotires discussed and shared views on (1) national level policies for facilitating international S&T cooperation among Japan and Southeast Asian countries, and on (2) university or institutional level activities for international collaborations in S&T and human resource development among those countries. Many issues, such as past experience and current status in international collaboration among Japan and Southeast Asian countries and challenges for the future collaboration, were identified and shared through the discussion at the workshop.
